A+ Training: Troubleshooting Issues With Laptops Part 1

Laptop Power Failure

One of the most common occurrences in laptops is power failure.  Whether it be due to high usage, battery failure or an error, it still can be hard to fix. Locating the problem can be a difficult task, but troubleshooting should help you detect the problem within a reasonable amount of time.

The first trick to troubleshooting accurately is to find out what is not wrong. It is a process of elimination. First of all check out the power points used by completing a lamp test to make sure they are not the problem, and then check that the transformer is working. If your laptop is a newer model, it should have an LED on the transformer to show that it is on or off, as well as a LED on the laptop, which shows that there is a power supply going through. If power is still reaching your laptop, but still it won’t turn on, it may be the battery.

A frazzled or problematic battery isn’t necessarily a major disaster, as most modern laptops can run off the mains without the use of the battery. Make sure the laptop can run without a battery, and then you can remove it and power up your laptop as normal. If you are still experiencing power failure, it may be a problem with power regulation, the main switch board or the ‘on’ button is simply damaged. To test for these you will need to use specialist equipment.

Bear that in mind, with the lower end of the laptop market badly manufactured batteries are used, so it may be simply that this battery has had its life and is now ready to be replaced. There are also a few of measures you can take to prevent battery failure, including regularly discharging the power in the battery. The amount the laptops needs charging and to discharge will depend upon the model, so search online for the requirements for the model. Some models need to be charged for a few hours then discharged, whilst others only need discharging once a week. Taking preventative action is often the best way to save a battery and prolong its life.

Troubleshooting is one of the main roles of an I.T technician, thus if you intend to start a career as an I.T technician by starting your A+ training, it’s vital that you fully understand how to and that you continue to gather information on troubleshooting as technology changes.

Cnc and cad print reading and drafting

CNC And CAD – Print Reading And Drafting

When I went through college I learned how to read prints and draft. We had a bag of physical tools that we purchased and hauled around campus. T-Squares, French Curves, compasses, pencils and erasers filled this bag. Then you had a pad of drafting paper and a drafting desk. You would pin or tape the paper down and begin drawing or drafting.
Drafting paper has a grid to help keep you aligned as you began you design. In CAD, there is a grid you snap to, or guides to keep you straight. We had hard plastic templates to draw curves. CAD has numerous tools to draw curves and lines. We had calculators to figure out distances and ratios. CAD does this automatically.
Overall, you can view CAD as replacing Drafting. CAD moved the same type of process into a more flexible and efficient environment. CAD has also helped out with networking of designs. Different designers and engineers can work on the same assembly in different parts at the same time. This team effort really moves the overall process along much faster.
However, as far as print reading goes, that is about the same as it was before. Drafting outputs prints and CAD outputs prints. A human still needs to be able to read them and make sense of them. A plus with CAD is that it is much more standardized and clear. Many times before, prints were unique to their maker. Similar to handwriting, you could not always figure out what the engineer wanted to convey to you. CAD cleans all that up.
CAD is the way we work today. I would be very surprised if you could come across a shop that has hand drawn prints. It just isn’t practical. Precision and accurate prints are the way manufacturing increases efficiency.

Reviewing the xyron ezlaminator cold laminator

Reviewing the Xyron 9″ EzLaminator Cold Laminator

Xyron has created some great laminators and crafting tools, from the simple Create-A-Sticker 150 to the innovative Wishblade die cutting machine. One of the company’s most basic machines is the ezLaminator. This is a laminator that’s good for people who only do occasional laminating of things such as stickers, photographs, scrapbook pages, greeting cards, and so on. It is great for home use and possibly even small office or retail use. This review will talk about the ezLaminator’s strengths and weaknesses so you can decide if you want one for yourself.
The Xyron ezLaminator is a basic machine with a 9-inch throat, which means you can laminate items that are up to 8.5″ wide. It comes with a 30-foot-long, two-sided lamination cartridge to get you started. This is a cold laminator, so it is good for laminating heat-sensitive items, and you don’t need to use any electricity or batteries to use the machine.
One of the best features of the Xyron ezLaminator is how simple it is to use. To use it, all you do is place your document in the machine’s opening and then crank the handle. Since there’s no heat or electricity involved, even kids could use it during a crafting session with minimal supervision. It is also nice that it is easy to change the laminating film. Changing laminating film can be pretty tricky, but that’s not the case with this machine. The film cartridges let you know when they need to be replaced and when that happens, you can just lift the machine’s lid and replace the cartridge. It is virtually fool-proof.
The ezLaminator has a couple of other intriguing features. First, it has interchangeable laminating cartridges that allow you to control how your document is laminated. Some cartridges allow you laminate both sides of your document, while others laminate one side and apply adhesive to the other. Your laminating options are pretty open. This machine also has a removable built-in trimmer. You can use this trimmer to cut away the excess laminate from your items, or you could do it by hand. Having a built-in trimmer is a very convenient feature to have, especially in such an inexpensive machine. (The Xyron ezLaminator retails for less than $60.00.)
The ezLaminator does have some drawbacks due to its price. This is a laminator that’s really only meant to be used for personal projects. It is simply not able to handle heavy-duty lamination or long runs, nor can it handle documents that are wider than 8.5″. Also, unlike other Xyron laminators such as the Creative Station, the ezLaminator can only use cartridges for creating stickers and performing encapsulation lamination. Laminators such as the Creative Station can create magnets and incorporate repositionable adhesive, so if you’d like a machine with those features, the ezLaminator wouldn’t be a good pick. Finally, aside from a few metal parts such as the trimmer, the machine is made almost entirely of plastic, so it is not heavy-duty, obviously. But it is very portable, so you can take it with you on your crafting excursions.
Overall, the Xyron ezLaminator is a good machine for people who need a laminator for occasionally laminating craft projects and personal documents. It is nicely priced and easy to use. Plus, it’s great that you can use it without any electricity. This is a good machine for personal use, but it’s not ideal at all for anyone who needs to do a large volume of laminating.
